Sweden charges man over 2015 killing of Jordanian pilot burned alive
Briefly

Osama Krayem, a 32-year-old Swedish citizen, has been charged with aggravated war crimes and terrorism by Swedish prosecutors over the 2015 murder of Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh by the Islamic State group. Krayem, currently serving a 30-year sentence in France for previous terrorist activities, is accused of participating in the horrific killing during which the pilot was burned alive. The trial is set for June 4 in Stockholm, highlighting Krayem's active role within IS and the complexities of prosecuting war crimes across national jurisdictions.
Krayem, together with and in agreement with other perpetrators belonging to IS, killed/deprived Muath al-Kasasbeh of his life, according to the indictment.
The cage was subsequently set on fire by one of the co-perpetrators, and the pilot died as a consequence of the fire, the prosecutors said.
Krayem has previously denied the charges, according to Swedish public broadcaster SVT.
The IS group took al-Kasasbeh captive in December 2014 after his F-16 fighter jet crashed near the group's then de facto capital of Raqqa in northern Syria.
