"French authorities have arrested a prominent social media influencer who stormed into a bullring in the south of the country during a bullfight to protest the controversial practice, police said on Saturday. Jeremstar, real name Jeremy Gisclon, who has 2.5 million followers on his Instagram account, vaulted over barriers to enter the arena in Nimes on Friday carrying an anti-bullfighting banner. After a chase by security personnel, he was brought to the ground and dragged through the sand to the exit."
""I hate bullfighting. It's not art, it's animal torture. This despicable tradition must be abolished. I don't understand how this shameful spectacle is still possible in 2025," the influencer said in an Instagram message. His action, videos of which have been widely shared on social media, was organised alongside animal rights group Peta France. "We had been planning this action with him for several months," said Anissa Putois, head of communications and campaigns at Peta France."
""A team from PETA France is waiting at the police station for Jeremstar and the two activists to be released. We oppose this arrest. We don't know if they have had access to a lawyer," Putois added. "Punishing those who oppose violence while allowing, or even celebrating, the torture of other animals is a shameful breach of justice," the association said."
A prominent influencer, Jeremstar (Jeremy Gisclon), entered the Nimes bullring during a bullfight with an anti-bullfighting banner, was chased, tackled and dragged out by security, and was arrested. The action was organised with Peta France, which said it had planned the protest for months and criticised the arrests and legal access for detainees. Jeremstar called bullfighting animal torture and demanded abolition. Two other activists were also arrested. French law bans cruelty to animals and outlaws bullfighting in most regions, but corrida remains permitted in cities like Nimes and Bayonne as a cultural tradition despite opposition.
