A maintenance worker at Orleans Parish Justice Center has been arrested for allegedly facilitating an inmate escape by shutting off the water to a toilet. Sterling Williams, 33, faces multiple charges after admitting involvement in the escape plan via directives from an inmate. This incident raises concerns about security and complicity within the jail, as three other employees have also been suspended amidst the ongoing investigation. District Attorney Jason Williams remarked that the escape suggests significant inside assistance was involved, as ten violent offenders wouldn’t otherwise be able to escape without help.
Williams allegedly shut off the water to a toilet to help clear the way for the inmates to escape, sources said.
Ten violent offenders don't make their way into a pod made for two and make good their escape through concrete, rebar and barbed wire, without there being some sort of inside assistance.
