Louvre thieves left trail of DNA samples on helmet, gloves DW 10/24/2025
"Investigators found "more than 150 DNA, fingerprint and other traces" at the scene, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau told French news site Ouest-France on Thursday. These came from a helmet, angle grinders, gloves, a vest and other items used and abandoned by the four burglars, Beccuau said. "The analyses take time, even though they are a priority for the labs. We are expecting results in the next few days, which may provide us with leads, particularly if the perpetrators were on file," she said."

Four hooded and masked burglars climbed an extendable ladder onto a Louvre balcony and broke into the first-floor Apollo Gallery, targeting France's remaining crown jewels. The thieves used angle grinders to make small openings in display cases and pulled out eight pieces of jewelry once owned by French queens and empresses, worth an estimated €88 million. Investigators recovered more than 150 DNA, fingerprint and trace samples from a helmet, grinders, gloves, a vest and abandoned items. Laboratory analyses are underway and expected in the next few days, which may provide leads if the perpetrators are on file. CCTV showed internal alarms activated immediately and two employees attempted to chase the burglars before retreating.
