La Belle Vie: French fashion to curse words and wolves
"From French fashion and curse words to the Louvre and wolves, this week's La Belle Vie newsletter offers an essential starting point for eating, talking, drinking, and living like a local. La Belle Vie is our regular look at the real culture of France - from language to cuisine, manners to films. This newsletter is published weekly and you can receive it directly to your inbox, by going to your newsletter preferences in "My account"."
"Hello readers, my name is Emma Albright and I'll be taking over from Genevieve Mansfield as a reporter at The Local. Although these are tough shoes to fill, I hope to bring you as much culture, fun and good newsletters as she did. I was born to a French mother and an American father. I grew up in France, attending the American school of Paris and then graduating from the Sorbonne-Nouvelle university. It's safe to say, I've gotten the best of both worlds."
"But now with the idea of dual citizenship under threat, I feel a little thorn. If Republican Senator Bernie Moreno's bill ever became law (and that's far from certain) it would force Americans to choose between their American passport and any foreign citizenship. So what would I do? Giving up US citizenship would feel like renouncing a part of my family, a part of my life that I have known and appreciated since I was young. For me, France is ultimately the country I call home, but I know that this decision would be very hard for a lot of Local readers."
La Belle Vie is a weekly newsletter presenting French culture, language, cuisine, manners, films and everyday life. Emma Albright will take over as reporter at The Local. She was born to a French mother and an American father, attended the American School of Paris and graduated from Sorbonne-Nouvelle. She holds dual nationality and travels with ease between France and the United States. A proposed bill from Republican Senator Bernie Moreno could force Americans to choose between US citizenship and any foreign citizenship. The prospect of renouncing US citizenship feels like losing a part of family and life, and many readers would find such a decision difficult.
