Kosovo parliament elects Albin Kurti as PM ending year-long political deadlock
"During these years, as we have all witnessed, we have faced constant attacks and threats from Serbia,"
"Normalisation is a matter of regulating relations between two states, that is, as a bilateral external relationship and not interference or meddling in internal affairs,"
"pursue normalisation of relations"
Albin Kurti was elected prime minister by Kosovo's parliament with 66 votes, securing a third term and ending a year-long political gridlock. Kurti served as caretaker for 12 months after a prior election left him without a majority. His Vetevendosje party won a December snap election with over 51% of the vote, securing 57 seats. Kurti set a legislative agenda focused on the economy and increased defence investment. He said Kosovo has faced attacks and threats from Serbia and pledged to pursue normalisation of relations with Belgrade as a bilateral external relationship. Tensions persist in the northern Serb-majority areas, and normalisation is key for EU ambitions.
