Greenland updates: Macron proposes G7 summit with Russia
"The authenticity of the message, which Trump posted on his Truth Social network, has been confirmed by Macron's presidential entourage. "I can organise a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday afternoon after Davos," Macron wrote, referring to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland where Trump is also expected to put in an appearance. "I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danes, the Syrians and the Russians on the sidelines" of the meeting, he added."
"While Macron said France was in agreement with the US on flashpoints such as Syria and Iran, he said "I don't understand what you are doing" with regard to Trump's plans to take over Greenland. The message came after Trump threatened new 10% tariffs against eight European countries, including France, over their opposition to his Greenland plans, as well as 200% tariffs on French wine over France's intention to decline an invitation to join his "Board of Peace" in Gaza."
Emmanuel Macron privately messaged Donald Trump offering to organise a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday afternoon after Davos and proposed inviting Ukraine, Denmark, Syria and Russia on the sidelines. Trump posted the message on his Truth Social network and Macron's presidential entourage confirmed its authenticity. Macron said France agreed with the US on flashpoints like Syria and Iran but questioned Trump's plans to take over Greenland. The message followed Trump's threats of new 10% tariffs on eight European countries and 200% tariffs on French wine over diplomatic disputes.
