A gang dressed as construction workers used a mechanical lift mounted on a truck and angle grinders to breach a Louvre balcony window and enter the Gallery of Apollo. The thieves stole eight pieces of France's crown jewels and exited via the lift before escaping on motorized scooters; the raid lasted about eight minutes. The attackers attempted to set the truck and lift on fire but failed, leaving evidence. No suspects have been named and the perpetrators remain at large. Bocker Maschinenwerke confirmed one of its lifts was used, called the crime reprehensible, and posted lighthearted promotional material afterward.
