A terrorist investigation is underway after an explosion occurred at the Russian consulate in Marseille, attributed to two Molotov cocktails. Although no injuries were reported, the incident prompted immediate actions from both police and fire departments, leading to lockdowns and an inquiry. Russian officials, including Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, are demanding comprehensive investigations and enhanced security for diplomatic missions. Key figures from the Russian government called for increased security measures across all consulates in response to this alarming incident.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: "The explosions on the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille have all the hallmarks of a terrorist attack."
A Marseille police source said, "There were two loud explosions and material damage, but nobody was injured."
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Kremlin, said it is "necessary" to strengthen "all security measures" at Russian consulates following the attack.
Russia's consul general Stanislav Oranskiy confirmed that the explosion took place inside the consulate and reported that two Molotov cocktails were thrown inside.
