French deputies detained in Israel declare hunger strike
"We have no news from them"
"brief exchanges with their lawyers and with the French consul who was able to visit them,"
"Their detention conditions are difficult,"
"It is time for France to finally take action,"
Four France Unbowed deputies—national deputies François Piquemal and Marie Mesmeur and MEPs Rima Hassan and Emma Fourreau—declared a hunger strike after being detained by Israel following interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla. Israel detained 30 French citizens after intercepting a fleet of 45 ships that aimed to break Israel's siege on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid. Manon Aubry reported only brief exchanges via lawyers and a consular visit and described difficult detention conditions including more than ten people per cell and limited access to water. France Unbowed called for repatriation while government officials said consular protection is being provided.
