Gisèle Pelicot was drugged with sedatives and repeatedly abused after her former husband invited dozens of strangers to rape and mistreat her over nearly ten years. She waived anonymity and allowed public courtroom access to raise awareness about sexual violence and insisted perpetrators, not victims, should be ashamed. Husamettin Dogan said he was "trapped" into believing he was joining a consensual couple's game, while Pelicot said he raped her and must take responsibility. A court found footage and images showing prolonged abuse and sentenced Dogan to 10 years plus five years of mandatory treatment.
