France's culture minister backs criticised visit by Israeli orchestra
"Welcome to Israel's national orchestra,"
"Nothing justifies a boycott call for this moment of culture, sharing and communication. Freedom of creation and programming is a value of our republic. (There is) no pretext for antisemitism,"
"The Paris Philharmonic Hall cannot host the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra without reminding the public of the extremely serious accusations weighing on the leaders of that country (Israel) or the nature of the crime committed in Gaza,"
Rachida Dati welcomed the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra's visit to Paris and rejected calls for a boycott, stating cultural exchange, freedom of creation and programming are republic values and there is no pretext for antisemitism. The CGT Spectacle union criticised the planned concert, saying the Paris Philharmonic Hall cannot host the orchestra without reminding the public of serious accusations against Israeli leaders and the nature of crimes in Gaza, and that the concert attempts to normalise Israel internationally. The Paris Philharmonic Hall said it hoped the concert would take place in the best possible conditions and does not require visiting musicians to take positions on conflicts. Dati faces charges requiring her to stand trial.
