France: Macron to name a new PM in next 48 hours DW 10/08/2025
"The president thanks Sebastien Lecornu for the work done over these last 48 hours,"
"I told the President of the Republic that the prospects of dissolution were receding and that I believe the situation allows for the president to name a prime minister in the next 48 hours,"
"After my consultations over the past 48 hours, I am convinced that there is indeed an absolute majority in the National Assembly that rejects a new dissolution,"
President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister within 48 hours, the Élysée announced, following the resignation of interim Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu. Lecornu resigned after serving only briefly and said he would not return if asked. Lecornu indicated the prospects of dissolving the National Assembly were receding and that an absolute parliamentary majority opposes snap elections. He identified the contentious pension reform as a major obstacle to forming a new government and called for a way to enable debate on pension reform amid ongoing political turmoil and calls for resignations.
