France extends flu and Covid vaccination campaign
"The joint vaccination campaign against flu and Covid-19 was scheduled to end on January 31st - but as the viruses are still circulating throughout the country, the campaign has been extended. The joint vaccination campaign against seasonal flu and Covid-19 began on October 14th, 2025. Based on data collected up to January 18th, 2026, France's public health service observed an active and ongoing circulation of influenza viruses throughout the country."
"A resurgence, especially among younger people, has been observed since the start of the school year in January. This may result in increased consultations and hospitalisations across other age groups in the coming weeks. The vaccination campaign, due to end on January 31st, has therefore been extended until February 28th. Vaccination against both the flu and Covid-19 can be done at the same time, with one jab in each arm."
"As of December 31st 2025, flu vaccination coverage reached 46.3 percent among all targeted individuals and 53.3 percent among those aged 65 and over. Although these levels are higher than in the previous season, they remain insufficient given the intensity of the epidemic observed. Among people under 65 at risk of severe influenza, vaccination coverage remains particularly low. To support this extension of the campaign, the health authorities remind the public that sufficient quantities of vaccines are available throughout the country to meet the needs of all people concerned by the vaccination."
The joint seasonal flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign began on October 14, 2025, and was extended until February 28, 2026, because influenza viruses remain actively circulating across the country. Data up to January 18, 2026, showed ongoing circulation and a resurgence among younger people since the school year began in January, with potential for increased consultations and hospitalisations across age groups. As of December 31, 2025, flu vaccination coverage was 46.3% among targeted individuals and 53.3% among those aged 65 and over, while coverage remains particularly low for under-65s at risk. Sufficient vaccine supplies are available nationwide, and flu and Covid-19 vaccines can be administered simultaneously.
