France experiences a record 36 consecutive days of rain
"If you feel like the rain has been endless in France recently, you're nearly right - the country has broken a record with 36 consecutive days of rain since the start of the year. Météo France on Wednesday revealed that a record has been broken - since January 15th there hasn't been a single day when it hasn't rained in at least one part of France."
"On Wednesday four départements remain on red alert - the highest alert level - for flooding while much of the south and the west of the country remains on orange level. Almost 1,700 people have been evacuated from their homes and 5,000 homes were left without power. The rain has also been unusually widespread with areas such as the south-west and the island of Corsica, which don't normally get prolonged rain, suffering days and days of torrential rain."
France experienced 36 consecutive days of rain from January 14 to February 18, breaking the previous 32-day record set in October–November 2023. Since January 15 there has not been a single day without rain in at least one part of the country. The prolonged rainfall caused severe flooding in the southwest, with rivers including the Garonne bursting their banks. Storm Pedro is forecast to bring more rain. Four départements remain on red alert and much of the south and west are on orange alert. Almost 1,700 people were evacuated and about 5,000 homes lost power, while Corsica and other normally drier areas suffered torrential rain.
