France announced a ban on Itamar Ben-Gvir from entering French territory. The ban followed footage in which Ben-Gvir taunted activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla who were blindfolded and bound after being intercepted. Israeli naval forces intercepted the flotilla vessels in international waters off Cyprus and abducted about 430 participants. Images of activists being dragged across the floor led multiple countries, including Italy, France, the Netherlands, Canada, and Spain, to summon Israeli ambassadors to condemn the treatment and violation of human dignity. France stated it would not tolerate threats, intimidation, or violence against French nationals, especially by a public official. France also called for European Union sanctions against Ben-Gvir.
"As from today, Itamar Ben-Gvir is banned from entering French territory, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on X on Saturday. This decision follows his reprehensible actions towards French and European citizens who were passengers on the Global Sumud Flotilla. Ben-Gvir had posted footage on a social media platform showing himself gloating as activists from the flotilla knelt on the floor, blindfolded, with their hands bound, at the Port of Ashdod."
