"A motorbike drew up beside the car of the victim, who had just parked. The passenger on the motorbike shot the victim several times."
"Those who should be ashamed are the rich kids,"
"They're the ones consuming the drugs, have blood on their hands."
Medhi Kessaci, 20, was murdered in broad daylight in Marseille after a motorbike pulled up beside his parked car and a passenger fired multiple times. The killing is considered possibly intended as a warning connected to his brother Amine Kessaci's anti-drug activism and political profile. Amine leads victim outreach through NGO Conscience, has run unsuccessful national and EU campaigns, written about drug trafficking's toll on Marseille, and lives under police protection. The brothers' family history includes older brother Brahim being murdered and found charred in a burnt-out car after involvement in the local drug trade. Fourteen people have died in drug-related violence in Marseille this year. Medhi had aspired to become a police officer and described his older brother as a father figure.
