Months of speculation have surrounded the French government's future amid controversies over budget plans to rein in spiraling deficits and debts. Prime Minister François Bayrou faces a National Assembly confidence vote expected to remove him, which would make him the third prime minister to fall within a year. A Verian poll for Le Figaro found only 15% of French people trust President Emmanuel Macron to resolve the crisis. The debate begins at 2pm BST and the vote is expected near 6pm BST. If Bayrou loses, he will remain as caretaker until a successor is found; Macron must appoint a new prime minister or dissolve parliament and call snap elections.
