The 2025 Marathon des Sables Legendary kicked off on April 6, featuring approximately 900 participants from 52 countries racing approximately 250 kilometers through Morocco's Sahara Desert. The event showcased extreme conditions with temperatures soaring over 40 degrees Celsius and unpredictable weather. Notably, female participation reached a historic 56%, with 27% in the 250k Legendary race. Rachid El Morabity achieved a record-breaking 11 victories, with his brother Mohamed El Morabity finishing second. The race encompassed six stages, challenging runners with various distances, all while they carried their gear and food for the week-long event.
After a week of racing, victory went to Rachid El Morabity of Morocco and Maryline Nakache of France.
This year, the event had an unprecedented number of female participants thanks to continued efforts to make the races more accessible to women.
Extreme heat and unpredictable conditions made for a thrilling race, with runners facing temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Celsius.
Rachid El Morabity's win brought his total victories to a record-breaking 11, surpassing the 10 titles of Morocco's Lahcen Ahansal.
