Trendy Hackney pub The Spurstowe is taking over another east London boozer
"When it comes to the Spurstowe Arms, all three are true. Now, London's trendiest pub, where the uniform is strictly Maison Margiela Tabis (those are the shoes that look like a cow's hoof, for anyone not in the know), Arc'Teryx jackets and Salomon XT6s, is taking over a second venue. Obviously it's also in east London. The Spurstowe has announced it will take over The Elderfield, a pub in Lower Clapton, in December this year."
"The Spurstowe's manager Lee Foster told Broadsheet they wanted to respect the local neighbourhood. 'We don't want to just barge in and create chaos in the community,' he said. 'This is a long-term project, not a smash and grab.' However they don't plan to alienate their entire clientele, because pét nats and orange wines will still be on the menu. According to Broadsheet, The Elderfield's ethos will be to build on the pub's pre-existing historic character."
The Spurstowe Arms is expanding by taking over The Elderfield in Lower Clapton, with the venue due to open in December 2025. The project aims to respect the local neighbourhood and operate as a long-term presence rather than a disruptive arrival. A small renovation scheduled for January will include a fresh coat of paint and removal of modern fixtures to create a more antique feel. The Elderfield will serve food, though kitchen staffing details remain unrevealed. Pét nats and orange wines will remain on the menu, and current Spurstowe food is supplied by Dough Hands pizza.
