""What do cats like to do? They eat, they drink, they chill," chef-owner Michele McQueen told SFGATE. "That's exactly what we want here. Lucy Blue, named after her cats Lucy and Blue, opened in the former Duende space across from the Fox Theater in late August. McQueen, the chef behind Town Fare inside the Oakland Museum of California, opened it alongside SF bar owner and Town Fare general manager Matt Sturm.""
"The high-ceilinged, two-story bar is all dark wood, brick and moody lighting, complete with velvet blue seating and lush palms in every corner (courtesy of Liyu Designs, a design company from one of the owners of Blk Girls Green House). Upstairs, the sultry vibes continue with a lounge space filled with plush sofas that can be rented out for parties."
"The project came together quickly. McQueen had a liquor license left over from another Oakland restaurant that never opened after the onset of the pandemic. Earlier this year, she found out that she needed to use the license within 45 days or she'd lose it. She and Sturm found the former Duende space and had a lease in their hands just a few days later. 'So I feel like it was meant to be,' she said."
Michele McQueen opened Lucy Blue in late August in the former Duende space across from the Fox Theater. The bar is named after her cats Lucy and Blue. The two-story venue features dark wood, brick, moody lighting, velvet blue seating, lush palms, a mezzanine lounge with plush sofas for private parties, and a sultry vibe. The menu includes mezcal cocktails and small plates like catfish bao buns. McQueen partnered with SF bar owner and Town Fare general manager Matt Sturm and used an expiring liquor license to secure the lease quickly. A dress code enforces upscale attire.
