Married couple Liana Juarez and Cristina Jiron, both 31, have sampled espresso martinis at 93 restaurants and bars across Greater Boston and New England, with more counted for repeat visits. Juarez works in biotech and Jiron works in property management for life sciences. The couple moved to Boston six years ago after attending the University of Florida and used food and drink explorations to learn the city. They developed a rubric to rank drinks based on coffee liqueur use and taste, ingredient balance, base spirit quality, and a persistent foam or crema, with exceptional coffee weighted most heavily. Juarez prefers Negronis while Jiron favors martinis with a twist, and occasional outings for tiramisu turned into espresso martini tastings.
