The bottom-level store at 5603 Bay St. is in a newly built 40,000-plus-square-foot anchor building with a rooftop parking area of roughly 110 spots. The store will stock fresh Japanese produce and staples — purple sweet potatoes, Koshihikari rice, Kurobuta pork belly — and offer made-to-order and take-away meals including sushi, plus health items and beauty products including Korean-beauty lines. An upscale dining establishment serving authentic Japanese cuisine will occupy part of the site. Tokyo Central is owned by Pan Pacific Retail Management and will be Emeryville's first major Asian grocery.
