""This isn't how I thought the story would go. I thought Sprinkles would keep growing and be around forever. I thought it was going to be my legacy," Nelson said in a video on Wednesday."
"Nelson said the company's locations were closing on Wednesday: "Just to say that out loud is completely surreal.""
"On LinkedIn, Nelson said she had "no ownership or operational involvement" with Sprinkles."
Sprinkles Cupcakes is closing its storefronts and cupcake-dispensing locations, announced cofounder Candace Nelson. Nelson founded Sprinkles in 2005 and sold it to private-equity firm KarpReilly in 2012. The company operated 21 stores across seven states and 25 cupcake ATMs in airports, malls, and other venues. Nelson stated she has no ownership or operational involvement with the business. LinkedIn lists over 1,000 employees. KarpReilly removed Sprinkles from its online holdings in the fourth quarter, and it is unclear whether the firm sold the company or is winding it down. Nelson later cofounded Pizzana and CN2 Ventures and wrote a 2022 book for entrepreneurs.
