"Come raise a glass, dance with us, and help us fill the room with all the joy, flavor, and energy that have defined Baobab for nearly three decades,"
"It's not goodbye - it's 'see you on the dance floor.'"
"These walls have witnessed weddings, birthdays, revolutions, breakups, makeups, miracles, and thousands of nights where cultures blended like spices in a Ceebu Jen pot,"
"We are actively looking for a new home. The Baobab bends, but it never breaks."
Bissap Baobab will leave its longtime Mission Street space after 28 years, with the last official night set for Dec. 28 and a farewell party on Dec. 20. Events will run through the closing date. The departure is described as incredibly emotional and driven by the difficulty of sustaining a large space in San Francisco; the venue’s walls have witnessed weddings, birthdays, revolutions, breakups, makeups, miracles, and thousands of nights of cultural fusion. Bissap Baobab will continue weekly Baobab Flying Night at Muddy Waters beginning Dec. 1 as an RSVP-only, 49-seat, $35 dinner-and-music event featuring Makossa, Afrobeats and DJs from Cameroon and Gabon while searching for a new home.
