The San Jose Meal Pack for 9/11 Day is one of 24 large-scale projects nationwide, with over 30,000 volunteers expected to assemble more than nine million nonperishable meals across the U.S. San Jose volunteers aim to pack over 160,000 healthy nonperishable meals for Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, with limited volunteer spots and no open call. The Meal Pack Program is sponsored by AmeriCorps. Bay Area Older Adults will host a Guadalupe River Cleanup Day Sept. 18, providing supplies, transportation, lunch, and registration online.

Across the U.S., more than 30,000 individuals are expected to volunteer at 9/11 Day's Meal Pack events, assembling more than nine million nonperishable meals for food-insecure Americans.
Volunteers at the San Jose event are expected to pack more than 160,000 healthy, nonperishable meals for donation to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley for distribution to individuals and families in need in the South Bay. Volunteer spots are limited; there is no open call. The 9/11 Day Meal Pack Program is sponsored by the federal agency AmeriCorps, which oversees national service programs throughout the United States. According to Feeding America, more than 47 million Americans face food insecurity in the United States.
