Reem's bakery, operated by Reem Assil, is returning to Oakland with a new location in Jack London Square opening this fall. The 3,000-square-foot space will serve as both a production center for wholesale operations and a cafe. The menu will offer favorites like mana'eesh. Assil aims for the new location to support Reem's outlets throughout the Bay Area and to be worker-owned upon its opening. The bakery previously gained notoriety in the Fruitvale neighborhood before closing due to the pandemic.
Assil envisions the Jack London Square facility as a supply post for Reem's outlets throughout the Bay Area, with an additional cafe mainly geared toward take-out.
After a successful stint in Fruitvale, Assil's Reem's bakery will open a large, new location in Oakland's Jack London Square this fall.
The scent of za'atar, yeasted bread, and sweet orange-blossom syrup right out of the oven conjured up memories of my childhood and my yearning to create a home and community.
Reem's became a community fixture adored by locals and critics alike, earning accolades including Food & Wine's 'Restaurants of the Year' in 2018.
