"It was a storm, worse than this,"
"it was still a party."
"I can dance to anything,"
"Rain or shine, the Social shows up. We don't quit."
Toni Hines returned to New Orleans and described a severe storm that postponed Mardi Gras by a week, yet festivities continued. Bayview's Gumbo Band performed "When the Saints Go Marching In" under a canopy despite pouring rain and gusty wind. Cheryl White danced outside before much of the celebration moved indoors by noon to Gumbo Social. Dontaye Ball, Bayview resident and city homeless commissioner, hosted the event and invited other local restaurants. Asia Harris prepared shrimp and crawfish étouffée and Ro-Tel dip, and Ball offered four gumbos: chicken and sausage, smoked turkey, pork, and vegan.
