"Pret is no stranger to shaking up London's lunch landscape. After the chain broke onto the scene by simply making better-than-average sandwiches, it launched a wildly popular subscription and then gave it a do-over earlier this year. Now Pret a Manger is looking to change the game once again. The sandwich and coffee chain has revealed plans to launch meal deals and attempt to muscle in on a market currently dominated by supermarkets."
"They'll be tested at two times of day, offering a pastry and hot drink for breakfast, and a main, snack and drink at lunch. It could also include a pack of crisps and a sandwich. No pricing has been confirmed, and it's yet to be seen whether Pret will be aiming to compete with supermarkets on price level. Tesco's meal deal is now £3.85 for Clubcard holders (£4.25 without)."
Pret a Manger will trial meal deals at breakfast and lunch as a new retail offering beyond its sandwiches and coffee. Breakfast deals will pair a pastry with a hot drink, while lunch bundles will include a main, snack and a drink, potentially featuring sandwiches and crisps. Pricing has not been confirmed, leaving unclear whether Pret will match supermarket price points such as Tesco's and Sainsbury's. Pret first trialled a meal-deal scheme in France, where it proved popular, and the chain now operates in 19 countries since its 1986 London founding.
