It has a maple-forward flavor without being overly sweet, balanced by the buttery, smooth cream. With a respectable 17% ABV, Metcalfe's Vermont maple cream liqueur has the complex alcoholic undertones without leaving an alcoholic burn."
Nineteen dessert spirits excluding Baileys were sampled and ranked to identify unique after-dinner flavors that avoid cloying sweetness. Metcalfe's Vermont maple cream liqueur placed highest for its maple-forward flavor sourced from Vermont maple syrup and for winning multiple national competition medals. The maple taste is balanced by buttery smooth cream and restrained sweetness, with a 17% ABV that provides complexity without harsh alcoholic burn. The liqueur is very sippable neat or over ice and functions as a substitute for Irish cream in many mixed drinks. It closely resembles pure maple syrup flavor without producing an excessive sugar rush.
