Northern California food desert breaks ground on its first grocery store
Briefly

Plumas Lake has commenced construction for its first full-service grocery store, a Holiday Market, responding to the needs of the 8,000 residents who currently face a food desert. The store is set to be 30,000 square feet, located behind Walgreens on River Oaks Boulevard, and plans to open in summer 2024. Holiday Market, part of North State Grocery, aims to hire 70 to 80 people and has been trying to enter the community for a decade, fulfilling local requests for a grocery store.
We have been trying to go into this community for the past 10 years due to the fact it's a fast growing community and they currently do not have a grocery store and have to travel over 10 miles to the nearest store.
Weather permitting, we hope to be able to open next summer.
Residents have inquired about a Holiday Market for many years and we finally found a great partnership with Hilbers who is developing the property to make it a reality.
Plumas Lake is considered a food desert, and the new Holiday Market aims to serve its approximately 8,000 residents.
