"The recall is due to the potential presence of cereulide toxin which can make babies sick, the Food Safety Authority said today. The recall , the latest in a series in recent months, has been expanded following the European Food Safety Authority's publication this week of a recommended acute reference dose for cereulide in infant formula. Cereulide is a toxin produced by some strains of bacteria that an cause food poisoning symptoms, which can be quick to develop and include vomiting and stomach cramps."
"The FSAI said it is advising parents, guardians and caregivers who may have the recalled products at home not to feed them to their infant or young child. No cases of human illness linked to the affected products have been confirmed to date in Ireland, it said. The watchdog said that in addition Danone is undertaking a wider recall of infant formula, follow-on formula, and base powder manufactured in Ireland for export to a number of EU countries, the UK and third countries."
