"When Neapolitans first began selling flatbread topped with tomato sauce way back in the eighteenth century, they would probably have never predicted the thousands upon thousands of variations that would emerge centuries later. Now, we've got New York-style, Detroit-style, Sicilian-style and 'zas stacked with pineapple, blue cheese, 'ndjua, avocado and vodka-infused sauce. The options are endless, but that doesn't mean they're all good."
"The third best pizza in the world is the SRP Marinara from east London's Short Road Pizza. The 'exquisite' zhuzhed up marinara is on a crispy thin crust and topped with pomodoro, garlic puree, spicy chimichurri, burrata and Cantabrian anchovies. Short Road serves its pizzas at both the William The Fourth in Leyton and Three Colts in Bethnal Green."
"If it's inclusion on our list isn't enough to convince you of its excellence, the SRP Marinara was also named the Pizza of the Year at the National Pizza Awards back in November (for which Time Out's own food editor Leonie Cooper was a judge). It beat other outstanding London pies like Bing Bong Pizza's chilli and fennel sausage creation and Yard Sale 's 'Bright Young Thing' pizza featuring red onion chutney, lemon marmalade and white anchovies."
Time Out editors across Rome, Cape Town and New York compiled a list of the world's greatest pizzas. Short Road Pizza's SRP Marinara from east London placed third on that list. The SRP Marinara sits on a crispy thin crust and is topped with pomodoro, garlic purée, spicy chimichurri, burrata and Cantabrian anchovies. Short Road operates at the William The Fourth in Leyton and Three Colts in Bethnal Green. Short Road began in 2020, founded by Ugo and Kate as a back-garden project inspired by Ugo's nonna, then expanded through street-side baking, pop-ups and kitchen takeovers before permanent venues. The SRP Marinara also won Pizza of the Year at the National Pizza Awards.
