'I'm reeling': Oakland's prettiest brewery is closing after 8 years
"This is brutal."
"Where we found ourselves early this year was looking at a business model that was no longer financially viable," Huffard told SFGATE."
""And you can't charge $10 for a beer," she said. "That's not cool.""
""I'm reeling with disorientation and disbelief of how something can be so positive and loved and cherished and recognized, and then also so fallible and so delicate," Huffard said."
Roses' Taproom in Oakland's Temescal is closing after more than eight years of operation. The seven-barrel brewery proved too small to support a sustainable wholesale program, and operating costs became financially untenable. In-house brewing ceased in June, a transition that caused significant disruption, and the following September and October were the slowest months in eight years. Local and national trends, including declining alcohol consumption, increased beverage competition, and rising costs, contributed to the challenges. The taproom was known for warm design, small-batch beers and ciders, community events, charcuterie boards, and a Mug Club. A brief limited reopening is planned this week.
