I tried and ranked 11 high-protein yogurts. My favorite had as much protein as a can of tuna.
"Protein has entered every corner of the pantry as consumers aim to build, or avoid losing, muscle. There's protein popcorn, protein cereal, and even protein water. If a food product did not already contain protein, it does now, thanks to gym bros, social media, and Ozempic. Yogurt is naturally high in protein, but some brands are taking extra steps to ensure their yogurts - or dairy snacks, as some are labeled - have as much protein as possible."
"Ratio, for example, has 25 grams of protein, which is more than in four eggs. The "yogurt-cultured dairy snack," as it is labeled, achieves this by adding ingredients like whey protein concentrate. Other kinds of yogurt, like skyr - an Icelandic strained dairy product - are naturally higher in protein, putting them in the same category as the protein-added yogurts. To see if they actually taste good, I compared 11 different high-protein yogurts from my local store's dairy selection."
Protein has spread across pantry items as consumers seek to build or preserve muscle, appearing in products like popcorn, cereal, and even water. Yogurt provides naturally high protein, and some brands add whey protein concentrate to boost content. Ratio's yogurt-cultured dairy snack contains 25 grams of protein, more than four eggs. Skyr, an Icelandic strained dairy product, is naturally protein-dense. Eleven high-protein yogurts (over 12 grams per serving) were purchased at a local New York City store and compared by taste and protein content using each brand's vanilla flavor. Chobani, Ratio, and Oikos ranked best.
