Hopes of supermarket price war raised after Aldi joins Lidl in cutting bread costs

We fully understand the pressures on households and are determined to help their budgets stretch further. That is why we continue to lower our prices so that our customers can always be sure that when they shop with ALDI, they can get great quality products at the best price, right across our range."
"Lidl's Medium Sliced White Pan (800g) is being reduced in price by 10c to 85c. Its Toaster Sliced White Pan (800g) is now 99c, also down 10c. The White Half Loaf (400g) is being reduced by 4c to 75c, and the Brown Pan Medium Sliced (800g) is going down by 10c to 95c. The Best Balance Sliced Pan (800g) will now be €1.05, down from €1.09."
Aldi and Lidl have reduced prices across multiple sliced-pan bread lines. Aldi reduced its white loaf by 10c to 85c, brown loafs to 95c, and the white 'Mega-Toast' to 99c; two 'Simply Both' variants fell 4c to €1.05 and 75c. Lidl cut prices on five sliced-pan products, with Medium Sliced White Pan (800g) down 10c to 85c, Toaster Sliced White Pan (800g) to 99c, White Half Loaf (400g) to 75c, Brown Pan Medium Sliced (800g) to 95c, and Best Balance Sliced Pan (800g) to €1.05. Previous own-brand milk price cuts prompted rival matching, and responses from other retailers are expected ahead of the Christmas period.
