The James Beard Foundation announced semifinalists for the James Beard Awards, established in 1990 to recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and broader food system. The official list of nominees will be released on March 31 and winners will be crowned at a ceremony on June 15. New York has its own Best Chef category with a broad list of semifinalists drawn from across the state. Two New Jersey chefs were recognized in the Mid-Atlantic Best Chef category. Several New York restaurants and Emerging Chef candidates also appear on semifinalist lists.
