Head to Mayfair for Charcoal-Grilled Al Pastor and Steak Tacos
"Situated between a muffler shop and a strip mall, No Pasa Nada is the kind of place you could easily miss if not for the aromas of asada and al pastor emanating from the grill and trompo perched outside its wooden cabin. While efforts to import the sizzle of a Mexican taqueria often fall flat, owner Isaac Jauregui accurately captures a snapshot of Mexico's surreal character, heartfelt hospitality, and charcoal-kissed flavors in a small corner of Chicago."
"The short menu includes steak, al pastor, and veggie tacos. Start with the thinly sliced al pastor in a lightly fried, chewy tortilla; charcoal char around the edges imparts texture and flavor to the meat. Request your tacos "con todo," for all the garnishes, including pineapple. The asada is good quality, tender, and well-seasoned, finished with a slice of avocado. Limes come standard."
No Pasa Nada is located between a muffler shop and a strip mall in Chicago and opened in May 2025. The short menu focuses on tacos: steak, al pastor, and a vegetarian option, plus burritos and a breakfast taco with egg and ham. The al pastor is thinly sliced and lightly fried in a chewy tortilla with charcoal char and pineapple when ordered con todo; the asada is tender, well-seasoned, and served with avocado and lime. Green and red salsas are available. Drinks include horchata, coffee, and atole. Seating is limited to a single four-person table; hours extend until about 11 p.m.
