Further batches of SMA baby formula pulled from shelves over toxin risk
"This is the second recall of the Nestlé products in just over a week, and comes due to the potential presence of a toxin called cereulide. Cereulide is produced by some strains of the bacterium, bacillus cereus, which can cause food poisoning. The FSAI is once again advising parents, guardians and caregivers to refrain from using the recalled products, as the cereulide is "extremely heat resistant" and consumption of the toxin can lead to "nausea and severe vomiting"."
"Symptoms can appear within five hours, and generally last between six and 24 hours. Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale, and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Below is a list of the recalled products: Batch codes can be found on the base of the tin or box for powdered formulas or the base of the outer box and on the side / top of the container for ready-to-feed formulas."
