Big-time Chicago chef opens something new in premier Bay Area tech corridor
"One of the Bay Area's buzziest new restaurants, Valley Goat, is in the middle of what feels eerily like a food desert. The upscale restaurant, tucked inside the posh Treehouse Hotel in Sunnyvale's booming tech district, is more than 3 miles from a supermarket. Most of the other places to eat nearby are fast food chains - Togo's, KFC, Burger King and McDonald's."
"Before March, when Valley Goat unleashed its globally inspired food on the thousands of Google, Meta and Amazon employees in the neighborhood, the only sit-down dining option in the area - unless you count Denny's and Hobee's - was Dish N Dash, a very good order-at-the counter Middle Eastern chain. If these moneyed workers wanted a night out with something a little fancier, they'd have to go downtown - or leave Sunnyvale altogether."
"Inside, Valley Goat has so much curated greenery it feels like one of those bougie plant shops where you long to buy something but even a tiny succulent's price is so steep it sends you running for Home Depot. Calatheas and philodendrons hang from the high ceiling, while moss and ivy weave through the spokes of colorful wheels dangling over the bar, where a bourbon Goat Fashion fetches $24."
Valley Goat occupies the Treehouse Hotel in Sunnyvale's tech district and sits more than three miles from a supermarket. Surrounding dining options are largely fast-food chains such as Togo's, KFC, Burger King and McDonald's. Valley Goat opened with globally inspired food aimed at thousands of Google, Meta and Amazon employees in the neighborhood. Executive chef Stephanie Izard, a winner of Food Network's "Iron Chef Gauntlet" and Bravo's "Top Chef", leads the restaurant. The interior features abundant curated greenery—calatheas, philodendrons, moss and ivy—and a $24 bourbon Goat Fashion. Weekends draw large celebratory parties, and securing a reservation is a sought-after experience.
