Bay Area mini-chain down to 2 restaurants after back-to-back closures

"The Bay Area mini-chain has had a rocky year amid back-to-back closures. The Tacolicious location at 4063 24th St. in San Francisco quietly closed in October, which appears to have been days before the Palo Alto store shuttered. The Noe Valley site had rebranded as Tacolicious in early August after previously operating as a spinoff called Todo el Día that offered breakfast tacos, tortas and savory guisados on blue corn tortillas. The specific reasons behind its closure are unknown."

"In early 2013, Tacolicious opened the Palo Alto location, its third, following the success of its two San Francisco restaurants in the Marina and Mission districts. Ahead of the grand opening, owner Joe Hargrave told Palo Alto Online in 2012 that construction for his Palo Alto restaurant was estimated at $500,000 and that the space had enough seating for up to 100 guests. He added that he had "been thinking about coming to Palo Alto for a while" and that he loved the community."

"The Mexican fast-casual restaurant at 632 Emerson St. in Palo Alto has shuttered after a nearly 13-year run. Jonatan Prestini, a general manager at Tacolicious, confirmed to SFGATE that the Peninsula outpost had its last service day on Oct. 31. "Our journey at that location has come to an end. This was a difficult decision made after reviewing long-term operational priorities and the overall direction of the company," Prestini said but did not share additional details."
