Bay Area locals are flocking to a sandwich shop for its hard-to-find ice cream

Roast & Toast, a new cafe in North Berkeley, introduced booza, a dense Arabic ice cream, to its menu in April. Booza, made with salep and mastic gum, is known for its unique stretchy consistency. Co-owner Fadi Alhour has dedicated his time daily to produce this ice cream, which has quickly accounted for 90% of his sales. Customers can choose from four flavors at the booza cart in the cafe, and the dessert is served with generous portions and various toppings.
