Nykia Hamilton, a single mother of three, worked alone managing a Burger King location for a 12-hour shift. A TikTok user posted footage of Hamilton working all tasks on July 6, which quickly went viral and drew widespread sympathy. Viewers nicknamed her the "Burger King Mom" and urged raises and support. Hamilton acknowledged the nickname and posted videos with her children, saying, "You know my name, but not my story." On August 8 Hamilton posted a tearful TikTok saying she had been fired for being late because of her kids. Supporters raised more than $130,000 for her through social media donations. A Burger King spokesperson said no team member should be left to run a restaurant alone and expressed disappointment in policy failures.
