A giant fish market is popping up at the South Street Seaport tomorrow
"If you've ever wondered what New York smelled like at 3am in 1950 (hint: briny, busy and a little chaotic), the Fulton Fish Market is as close as you'll get. Now, for the first time in two decades, the market is returning-sort of. Beginning Friday, September 5, FultonFishMarket.com , the country's largest online seafood retailer, will stage an immersive pop-up at 226 Front Street in the South Street Seaport, just steps from where the original market sold its catch for nearly 200 years."
"But this isn't just about eating (though, let's be honest, that's a big part of it). The space will also feature interactive kiosks where you can browse FultonFishMarket.com's offerings-from live lobsters to gleaming oysters-and have them shipped directly to your apartment. The idea is to show off how a market once notorious for its Mafia ties and midnight auctions has reinvented itself as a sleek, national seafood powerhouse."
An immersive Fulton Fish Market pop-up opens September 5 at 226 Front Street in South Street Seaport and runs through October 31. Guests can order curated seafood dishes sourced from the market, including a smoked-salmon-and-caviar-topped Tompkins Square Bagel sandwich and "The Dream" Sandwich finished with a full ounce of specialty caviar. The space features interactive kiosks to browse FultonFishMarket.com's offerings—from live lobsters to oysters—and ship them directly to apartments. The project highlights the market's reinvention from a midnight-auction spot with Mafia ties into a sleek national online seafood retailer. A rotating lineup of events will include chef-driven dinners, community workouts, DJ sets, Champagne toasts and caviar bumps.
