A free apple orchard pops up in Manhattan next week
"Every day, tons of fresh, healthy food goes to waste while families go hungry,"
"With the government shutdown disrupting food assistance, Farmlink is stepping up to close the gap-showing how simple it can be to turn surplus into sustenance."
On November 25, Farmlink Project and 260 Sample Sale turn 261 Fifth Avenue into a pop-up apple orchard offering farm-fresh fruit and warm cider. The organizations redistribute 20,000 pounds of locally grown apples sourced through the New York Apple Association and allocate another 15,000 pounds directly to partner food banks in Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx. All apples are free, and donations are encouraged to support food-rescue operations. A prior activation moved 2,000 pounds of produce in just over two hours. Carhartt offers exclusive collab hats and tees with proceeds benefiting Farmlink as the group pursues a goal of delivering 10 million pounds of food by Thanksgiving.
