Yes, Jeremy Allen White is actually singing in 'Deliver Me from Nowhere' - and Bruce Springsteen approves
"Like Bruce, Jeremy White has two things that I think are critical for this: one is humility, and the other is swagger. They don't teach you swagger. They don't teach you that at The Juilliard School. You either have that or you don't. And I knew that he had it."
"I also knew that he's a remarkable actor. And when it comes to singing, Jeremy did all his own singing on camera, and it was remarkable at times that we couldn't tell the difference, in certain songs, between Jeremy and Bruce."
"Picking up a guitar for the first time when you've never held one before, that was humbling."
Jeremy Allen White prepared to play Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me from Nowhere with an intensive six-month effort to learn guitar and singing despite never having played guitar before. The role provoked intense fear and humility as White trained vocally and rehearsed music, prerecorded some covers for the film, and sang live on set for certain scenes. Director Scott Cooper selected White for his resemblance to Springsteen in his early 30s and for a perceived combination of humility and swagger. Cooper noted White performed his own singing on camera, occasionally sounding nearly indistinguishable from Springsteen.
