"Winston helped me move my furniture into my place. And I helped him move too. That was at Yale Drama School. Duke and fellow Black Panther star Lupita N'yongo were both students there when they went with a group to see the original Avengers in 2011, wondering if their careers would ever lead them into such a vast comic book universe."
"Since then, Abdul-Mateen II's been in a lot of genre projects that aren't Marvel, but are nonetheless iconic in the genre world: He was all-powerful Dr. Manhattan in HBO's acclaimed Watchmen series, the DCs deep-sea foe Black Manta in the Jason Momoa Aquaman films, and a revamped version of Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus in 2021's The Matrix Resurrections. Later this year, he stars in the Netflix action series Man on Fire, playing redemption-seeking covert operative John Creasy."
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star as Wonder Man in an offbeat Marvel Studios comedy series debuting on Disney+ January 27. He reacted enthusiastically to the Avengers: Doomsday final teaser featuring Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, citing a personal friendship with Duke dating to Yale School of Drama. Both Duke and Lupita N'yongo attended Yale and shared early hopes after seeing the original Avengers in 2011. Abdul-Mateen II has established a strong genre résumé, including roles as Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, Black Manta in Aquaman, and a reimagined Morpheus in The Matrix Resurrections, and will appear in Netflix's Man on Fire.
