""art-washing" Israel's military actions in the Gaza strip"
Retired Israeli military general Noam Tibon received a text on Oct. 7, 2023 reporting Hamas attackers in his family's kibbutz and immediately decided to use all his skills and experience to save his family, undertaking a 14-hour rescue journey. Director Barry Avrich turned that experience into the documentary The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue. TIFF removed the documentary on Aug. 13 over footage rights and security concerns, then reinstated it after those concerns were addressed amid backlash from Israeli politicians and Jewish groups. Screenings have prompted demonstrations, with protesters accusing the festival of art-washing Israel's actions in Gaza and the director inviting audiences to decide whether to attend.
