"I refuse to lie to you: It's been a rough fall for box-office points. October is the new wasteland for theatrical movies, something we got a taste of last year when only one movie that opened in the spookiest month made it to $100 million domestic. (We all remember Venom: The Last Dance, don't we?) This year, it's even worse, with no $100 million October movies and only two ( and Black Phone 2) to surpass $50 million."
"If you added The Running Man to your roster at its modest-but-not-inconsiderable $8 price tag, clearly you were hoping for more. The film that did take No. 1 at the box office - the threequel Now You See Me: Now You Don't - cost only $5 to draft, which is definitely the better value. But a $21 million opening weekend isn't going to have you rolling around in MFL points like so many gold coins."
Week 8 fantasy-league scoring reflects a weak fall box-office. October produced no $100 million openers and only two films surpassed $50 million. The Running Man opened to $17 million in second place, and Now You See Me: Now You Don't debuted at $21 million despite a low $5 draft cost. The Running Man’s $8 draft price disappointed owners expecting blockbuster upside. Predator: Badlands reached $66 million after two weeks, and Regretting You stands at $44 million. Fall releases without awards-season momentum underperformed expectations. Anticipated franchise and holiday releases are expected to provide box-office reinforcements.
