Tickets Alert: Screening of Das Boot on HMS Belfast
"Arguably one of the best war movies ever made, it depicts both the excitement of battle and the tedium of the fruitless hunt, and shows the men serving aboard U-boats as ordinary individuals with a desire to do their best for their comrades and their country. And for those of us on the Allied side, it shows a rarely seen view from the other side of the fight."
"There are several versions of the epic, and HMS Belfast will be showing the 4-hour-long 1997 director's cut in its original German language with English subtitles. Introducing and discussing the film will be IWM's chief curator, James Taylor and Bavaria Filmstadt's expert, Stefan Bryxi. Fittingly, the movie will be screened in HMS Belfast's Ships Company, a space where screenings to entertain and inform were once shown to sailors serving at sea."
